Zurich contains because of its location and natural situation a lot of green. 25% of the city area is covered by forest and there is the Lake of Zurich whose boarders go along with a green belt on many places and at some of them you even can take a bath.
There are also two rivers crossing Zurich spending a natural green situation. Zurich is surrounded by hills covered with forest or houses.
Public Parks are used intensely by the citizens to spend time with kids, dogs, jogging, and meeting friends. There are public electrified Barbequing stations everyone can use for free. Public outdoor bathes to spend free time in summer are spread over the city, accompanied with trees spending shadow and grass to put your towel.
One of the main reasons Zurich appears as a green city is because of the hills. From almost everywhere in the city you can see them and they are covered with forest or housing mixed with trees.
This picture is taken in the middle of the city at the lake. The houses disappear behind the trees. In the background the Uetliberg, covered with forest.
The street with one of the highest sale rates per square meter in the world.
I think there is no ‘typical’ street situation in Zurich. But a lot of times the streets go along with trees, small gardens in front of houses and flower beds. The mallows on the photo are an intervention of the guerrilla gardener Maurice Maggi.
Because of the orientation of the Lake, you can see from its boarders on clear days the Swiss Alps.
Rivers are flowing through the city.
Spending cool air in summer and situations to take a bath or even to swim, in the evening to go for a drink.
Forests in the city area are used intensely by the citizens. There is also a Zoo located in the forest area outside the city centre and there are jogging paths and bike trails.
Lots of times school areas bring a green situation into a neighbourhood.
Typical for Zurich are the roof terraces. Even on pitched roofs one often finds a terrace used by the tenants of the house. Some of them are cosy green roof gardens.
Intervention of citizens: balconies overloaded with plant pots of the same type. Looks like an organized intervention.
Intervention of citizens: bags filled with ground are situated along the way in a park. They are put there by neighbours and planted with flowers in springtime.
